Mukul Roy warns of history repeating as Kolkata Police grills him in graft case

Tuesday, 10 September 2019 | Saugar Sengupta | Kolkata

BJP leader Mukul Roy attacked Mamata Banerjee Government for hatching political conspiracy against him and warned that history was always prone to repeat itself.

This, even as the Bengal Police on Monday interrogated him for more than two hours in a graft case.

The former Railway Minister who was on Monday evening interrogated at Thakurpukur Police Station for more than two hours charged the Trinamool Congress with “hatching political conspiracy against me.”

He said “They (TMC Government) have framed 24 criminal cases of fraud against me but in each of these 24 cases the complainants have affirmed through affidavit that they have been forced to bring charges against me... Still this Government is continuously bringing false charges against me, but they must be reminded of the fact that harsh history repeats itself.”

Roy said, “I have replied to all the questions to the best of my knowledge and capacity.” On whether he was asked to appear before police again he replied in the negative.

“This is definitely a case of political conspiracy and I once again iterate that the way she (Banerjee) is bringing false cases.... history is prone to repeat itself,” he said.

While Roy would not clarify as to what he meant by drawing the analogy of history repeating itself his party colleagues said “those who are doing this today should keep in mind that two years from now BJP will be in power.”

Roy was summoned within a month of one Baban Ghosh was arrested by the police for taking Rs 46 lakh from a person promising him to get him the membership of the Railway Board. Roy said he had no connection with any such cases.

Meanwhile, the CBI has summoned senior TMC leader and State Minister Subhendu Adhikary in Sharada case.”

Elsewhere, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijaybargiya charged Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee with doing politics of “appeasement and terror.”

“Three months back BJP worker Pradeep Mandal and Sukanto Mandal were attacked by almost 400 persons. The attackers were the men of a smuggler. Ninety days have passed and police have arrested no one while accused are roaming free and creating terror,” Vijaybargiya said after visiting Sandeshkhali in North 24 Parganas where a few months ago two BJP workers were allegedly attacked by TMC workers.

He said such acts were a result of Banerjee’s appeasement politics.
