Rural sports competitions, cultural programmes and a food fête will by the highlights of this year’s 'Hareli Tihaar' to be celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in Chhattisgarh on August 1.
The 'Hareli' is one of the major festivals of the state and this year the state government has declared a public holiday on the occasion.
The government has also decided to celebrate this agriculture festival on a wide scale to conserve and protect Chhattisgarhi culture.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey and Culture Minister Amarjeet Bhagat have given instructions to officials of various departments to organise programmes on 'Hareli Tihaar' in district headquarters, block headquarters and gram panchayats.
These programmes will be attended by Chief Minister, Ministers and other prominent guests.
Apart from rural sports competitions, cultural programmes, stalls of Chhattisgarhi delicacies will be put up and symbolic plantation will be organised.
There will also be 'Gedi Daud' and a prize distribution programme.
Likewise, newly built cowsheds will be showcased in villages.
State government has ensured participation of Panchayat and Rural Development, Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Culture and Public Relations Departments in organizing programmes for celebration of Hareli Tihaar.
Panchayat and Rural Development Department has been appointed as nodal development department for the same.
