It was straight from a Bollywood flick as a dance party organised by the members of a notorious gang turned nightmarish after sleuths of the Delhi Police Crime Branch landed in the party and arrested 15 members of infamous Kapil Sangwan alias Nandu gang on Monday late night. The gang members had organised a the bash in a house at Delhi’s Najafgarh area after their gang leader Kapil Sangwan was released on parole from prison. However, the gang leader was not present at the venue.
Police has also recovered nine pistols, including country-made pistols and 65 cartridges from the possession of the gang members.
The accused have been identified as Vineet (28), Vasudev (23), Sachin (22), Rahul (25), Surender Kumar (22), Chirag (22), Abhishek alias Chintu (23), Vicky Dagar (26), Nishant Dagar (27), Naveen (25) all residents of Delhi and Paramjeet (35), Pradeep Sehrawat (22), Rohit (23), Naveen (22) Deepak (22) all resident of neighbouring Haryana. Police said that the 12 members of the gang arrested have past criminal history and three are first timers.
According to Dr Ajit Kumar Singla, Additional Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, on June 24, at around 9:30 PM specific inputs were received that the associates of Nandu gang would be gathering at a house in Goyala Dairy, Najafgarh to celebrate the release of Kapil from jail on parole.
“Acting on the inputs, two teams of around 40 police personnel was formed and at around 11:40 pm, the two teams surrounded and raided the premises at Goyala Dairy and apprehended 15 persons with firearms,” said Dr Singla.
“During the ensuing melee, one Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Jaiveer was injured on his left hand with a knife. Subsequently, a case under sections 186/353/324/332/34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and 25/54/59 Arms Act was registered against the accused persons,” said Dr Singla.
“During interrogation, the accused persons disclosed that they had gathered at the Goyala Dairy house to celebrate a social occasion. All the arrested persons are associates of Kapil Sangwan, who is a desperate criminal of Najafgarh area,” said the Additional CP.
Kapil Sangwan has several cases of murder, attempt to murder, extortion, criminal intimidation and possession of illegal firearms registered against him in Delhi and Haryana. He was in jail since 2016 and was released from jail on parole on June 24.
“Criminal antecedents of the arrested accused persons are being ascertained. During initial investigation it has been revealed that 12 out of the 15 arrested accused persons have past criminal history and three are first timers. Further investigation, including the source of firearms is in progress,” the Additional CP added.
