Two children sustained severe burn injuries in East Delhi’s Mandawali area, after they threw a cord wrapped in a metallic foil on an overhead high tension wire in an empty plot on Saturday.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Kumar Singh, a police control room (PCR) call was received around 8 pm on Saturday stating that two children received burn injuries after getting in contact with a high tension wire in Mandawali area.

“On reaching the spot, it was found that two children aged 12 were injured when they threw a cord wrapped in a metallic foil on an overhead high tension wire in an empty plot in Mandawali area,” said the DCP. Police state that the incident occurred during play, since the children were unaware of the overhead high tension wire. The children are undergoing treatment at Safdarjung Hospital, police said, adding that they sustained over 40 per cent burn injuries.
