7 youths drown in Ganga

Tragedy struck Amroha when seven youths, including two brothers, were reported to have drowned in the river Ganga at Brajghat under Gajraula police station on Monday.

Police said the youths were in the district to attend a religious ritual and they went to Brajghat to take a dip in the Ganga and drowned while bathing.

While divers fished out five bodies, two others were still missing.

The youths were identified as Vipin, his brother Manoj, Gautam, Sanjeev, Dharmendra, Sachin and Vanti. The deceased were natives of Lurhari Khaddar in Amroha.

District Magistrate Umesh Mishra rushed to the spot to monitor the rescue operation.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the drowning of the youths in the Ganga.

Meanwhile, three persons, including two women, were killed near Maharajganj railway crossing in Ghazipur when the motorcycle they were riding was hit by a speeding truck on Sunday.

Ikhlaq Alam (41), his wife Reshma (36) and sister-in-law Jabina (39) were killed on the spot. No arrests have been made so far.

In Shamli, a 55-year-old man was electrocuted after coming in contact with a live wire of a tubewell in Nayagaon village on Sunday.

Farmer Suraj Singh had gone to the tubewell to drink water when he came in contact with the wire. He was rushed to a hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead.

In Mathura, four persons were killed and three others were injured when a speeding car mowed down a group of people standing along Yamuna Expressway on Sunday.

While three persons died on the spot, the fourth succumbed to injuries at a hospital.

SP (Rural) Aditya Kumar Shukla said that Surendra (32) of Pratapgarh, Dharmendra (40) of Haryana and Bhikam (50) and Mahesh (60) of Delhi were killed in the accident and the car driver had been arrested.
