Wednesday, 27 March 2019 | Sapna Singh | NEW DELHI

Central leadership of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) is believed to have turned down the proposed list of the prospective candidates sent by its Delhi unit. They has asked the Delhi BJP to send another list for all the seven Lok Sabha seats in the national Capital.

According to party insiders the names of celebrities were missing in the previous list of candidates. Following it, the party high command asked Delhi BJP to review and resend the names of probable candidates. Focusing towards the role of celebrities in Lok Sabha elections, party sources said that BJP need faces that can spread Modi's leadership among the masses, particularly in the aftermath of Pulwama attack.

"Party high command wants a face who can convey to the masses about the accomplishments of the Narendra Modi government on national security," said a BJP office bearer.

Notably, on Friday, the Delhi BJP election committee shortlisted three names each for the seven Lok Sabha seats in the national capital, amid protests by party members over celebrities joining the organisation for tickets ahead of the polls.

These names were sent to BJP's Central Parliamentary Board (CPB) under the chairman ship of Delhi state co -in charge and Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sithraman on the day former cricketer Gautam Gambhir joined BJP.

Another BJP office bearer said that the most of the members were against on giving the tickets to celebrities. A BJP official also gave a hint that former Indian cricketer may not be the natural choice to replace sitting Lok Sabha member from the New Delhi parliamentary seat.

BJP circles were agog after the formal entry of Gambhir into BJP's fold as he could be a formidable candidate to retain the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat in 2019 General Elections.

Names which were sent to the board were including former South Delhi Corporation Mayor Kamaljeet Sherawat for West Delhi seat, currently held by Pravesh Verma the son for former Delhi Chief Minister late Sahib Singh Verma.

It would be interesting to mention here that Gambhir is not the only candidate who has thrown his hat into the ring from, New Delhi constituency, names of sitting MP Meenakshi Lekhi, Shayam Jaju, the National Vice President, BJP and Rajesh Bhatia, General Secretary also among the recommended names.

From East Delhi - names of  Dr  Mahesh Giri, Om Prakash,  former Delhi BJP President Satish Upadhyay were recommended while from Chandni Chowk - Dr Harsh Vardhan, Sudhanshu Mittal, Vijender Gupta and from West Delhi -Parvesh Verma , Pawan Sharma, former mayor Shehrawat had sent to party high command.
