Eyes gouged out at Angul DHH again

Wednesday, 24 July 2019 | PNS | ANGUL

The BJP district unit on Tuesday called for a 12-hour bandh in the district on Wednesday to protest against the eyes of two dead persons allegedly being gouged at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

The party gave the bandh call demanding investigation of the matter and action against the accused. The party also demanded immediate arrest of the accused involved in the rape of an eight-year-old girl near the bus-stand in the town on Sunday. Notably, in another such incident, an eye of a man who had died in a road accident was allegedly gouged out at the hospital on Monday night.

One Jambheshwar Nayak of Kuskila village had died in the road mishap and the body was sent to the DHH for postmortem. Nayak’s family members have alleged that the right eye was gouged out while the body was kept in mortuary.

The incident has once again brought security of the hospital under the scanner. Earlier on July 18, the eyes of a four-year-old dead girl had been removed at the morgue of the hospital. The minor girl was admitted to the hospital in a serious condition and had succumbed to her injuries later, following which her body was kept in the morgue.

On July 19 morning when the body was being taken for autopsy, the girl’s father found that her eyes were gouged out and there were bruise marks on her nose.

The Banarpal police have launched an investigation into the case based on the complaint by the family members.
