Good BJD poll chances in S'garh expected

Thursday, 23 May 2019 | PNS | ROURKELA

There is a perception among the political pundits here that this time BJD may break its previous record in Assembly election though its MP candidate’s probability is very dim.

Since the inception of BJD it is party’s fifth Assembly election participation. So far in previous four occasions, the party had contested in first two occasions in alliance with BJP.

In 2009, the party contested in alliance with Left parties and NCP and in 2014, the party contested without any alliance. But not in any occasio, the BJD succeeded to win more than two Assembly seats out of seven here.

While the party won two seats (Rourkela and Rajgangpur) in 2000, it won only one seat (Rourkela) in 2004, two seats (Rourkela and Raghunathpalli) in 2009 and two seats (Raghunathpalli and Rajgangpur) in 2014.

But this time the perception is the party may win in more than just two seats. According to observers, the party is in good position in Rourkela, Raghunathpalli, Rajgangpur and Sundargarh seats. Besides, the party is in contest in Bonai seat also. So, it is expected that party may win at least 3-4 seats breaking previous records.

Besides, if Saarda Nayak from Rourkela, Subrat Tarai in Raghunathpalli and Mangala Kissan from Rajgangpur win then it would be their 3rd time as MLA on BJD ticket which would be another record so far as the Sundargarh district is concerned.

Similarly, the winning of Tarai would be another record i.e. successfully winning in three consecutive times and winning from Rourklea seat Sarada Nayak will be at par with Dilip Ray i.e. representing Rourkela for 3rd time.

Though the result is yet to be come out but many feel it would be favourable for BJD in Assembly segments and party will set many records.
