A 58-year-old homeless woman died after being hit by a Hyundai Creta car merely 100 meters from the Connaught place Police Station in New Delhi area on Monday night. Police have arrested the 27-year-old car driver who works at a private company in Gurugram. Police have ruled out the claim that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
The accused has been identified as Sukhbir Parmar, a resident of Gurugram, who was on his way to the railway station when the incident occurred.
“The incident took place at around 11 pm when the unidentified woman was crossing the road near the Bangla Saheb Gurudwara when Parmar who was behind the wheels of the creta allegedly hit her.
He stopped there itself. While a patrolling team reached the spot and made a police control room call after which the woman was rushed to the hospital,” said a senior police officer.
“The hospital officials declared her brought dead on arrival while Parmar was arrested from the spot. We have not been able to identify the woman as no documents were found from her possession. However, from her appearance and initial investigation, people have revealed that she used to beg in the locality,” said the senior police official.
Meanwhile during interrogation, Parmar revealed that he was on his way to receive his relatives from the New Delhi railway station when the woman allegedly came in from of the car.
“We are checking the CCTV of the area to confirm the claims made by Parmar. While he has been arrested under section 304A (Causing death by negligence) of the Indian penal code,” said the senior police official.
