Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced that the place where Swami Vivekananda stayed in 1877-79 during his visit to Chhattisgarh will be converted into a memorial.

He was addressing the event to mark the 125 years of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at Chicago in 1893 organised at Swami Vivekananda Vidyapeeth, capital city, Raipur.

Baghel said Swami Vivekananda laid a bridge between the developed countries and India through which ancient spiritual science and knowledge could spread in Western countries. The day also coincided with Vinoba Bhave jayanti.

Many things have to be learnt from Swamiji, who laid emphasis on service to human beings, animals and securlism and even that of Swami Ramkrishna Paramhansa. Swami Paramhansa had said all these religions were different paths that lead up to a single goal-God, said Baghel.

Baghel said Swami Vivekananda for six years roamed the whole country learning languages, dialects, culture, communities and saw poverty, illiteracy and hunger. He then concentrated to serve the human beings through the knowledge. That is why he always said serving the humanity is near to godliness. In present situation also, teachings of Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda have to be implemented in spirit.

Ramkrishna Mission Narayanpur secretary Shrimant Vyaptanand Maharaj and joint secretary Abhyatamanand of Ramakrishna Mission Raipur spoke in details of Swami Vivekananda’s speech at Chicago.
