State Drinking Water and Sanitation department Minister Ramchandra Sahis today said that State Government is serious with water conservation in urban and rural areas.
The Minister claimed that the Government is serious in developing a mechanism so that there is water in ponds, lakes, and farm field round the year.
Addressing his weekly Janta Durbar, the Minister said that the depleting ground water is cause of concern for everyone.
He said, “The main cause of depleting ground water is non- judicious exploitation of ground water. The Government is preparing a mechanism through which ground water table in State is maintained.”
The Minister’s observation on depleting ground water and surface water assume importance as recently State Government launched a campaign to conserve and manage water across the State.
The Minister heard the grievances of people who had attended at AJSU party office. Hearing the complaint of a woman from Tamar region, the Minister lost his cool and scolded the police inspector of Tamar police station.
The complainant, Reena Devi stated that some muscleman have forcefully and illegally acquired his land at Tamar.
The woman said that when she approached the police station to lodge the complaint with his brother, the police officer detained his brother and even tried to misbehave with her.
The Minister made a call to the police officer directing him to take action against the muscleman as per laws.
Murtaza Alam, a resident of Itki registered his protest for construction of another water tower in his area.
Alam said that at Itki already there is water tower is in Itki which is non functional, construction of another water tower will not solve the purpose.
Most of the complaint who reached the Janta Durbar had grievances related to provision of safe drinking water and water conservation issue.
