Nayagarh Dalit teenage boy killed at Muthagadia

Monday, 11 February 2019 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

A shocking revelation of gruesome murder of a Dalit teenager, Somanath Nayak, has come to the fore at Muthagadia village under the Nayagarh Town police limits.

The 15- year-old Dalit boy of Class X of a nearby school was kidnapped by two youths on a motorbike, while the victim had come for a bath in a village pond. The family members after a frantic search failed to detect the missing boy and lodged a FIR.

The police did not act instantly. Eight days after the kidnapping, the boy’s body was found dangling from a tree. Victim’s father Dhaneswar Nayak informed the police but the latter took no note of it reportedly under some political pressure.

The people of the locality especially the schedule caste (SC) community have lost faith in the local administration and particularly in the local police. The boy was allegedly murdered on the suspicion of a teen aged love affair with a higher caste girl.

A four- member team under State BJD Cell general secretary Ashok Mallick submitted a report to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Chairman State Planning Board and convener of State BJD SC Cell Bishnu Charan Das for taking needful action and to provide adequate compensation to the bereaved parents.
