Palamu police launches ‘Aao Saath Chaley’ initiative

Thursday, 12 December 2019 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Under the aegis of ‘Aao Saath Chaley’ an initiative of police in Palamu girls schools are being visited by lady police officials along with senior male police officials who interact and interface with the girl students to know what they feel about their security.

Sources said the initiative is the brain child of the SDPO Sadar Sandip Kumar Gupta and so far two major girls’ schools one KGAB Vidyalaya Chainpur and Balika Mission High School Abadganj have been touched.

Gupta said, “Our officials are reaching them. This is the first leg of ‘Aao Saath Chaley’ campaign, which is concentrating on girls’ schools and colleges. On Thursday we will be reaching out to YSN Mahila College here.”

Gupta said in the second phase of this campaign police officials will be visiting girls/ women folks of small tolas/ hamlets.

Outlining the purpose behind this drive he said, “These days one hears of incidents of criminal assault on women and girls. Our step is to assure this population that police are always with them. Just keep informing us. It is a great feedback attempt too of the police.”

Sources said at Balika Mission High School at Abadganj on Wednesday the girl students ‘cornered’   Gupta, inspectors of police Anand K Mishra and lady inspector of police Priyanka Anand of Women Police Station here when the girls questioned the three “ Nirbhaya case is hanging in limbo for 7 years or so while the Hyderabad case has been instantly disposed of. Why this so prolonged dispensation of justice in the Nirbhaya case?”

The girls had more ammunition in their school bags when they further lobbed another tedious question to this team of police officers saying, “It is said girls wear scanty dress and thus invite loafers, who rape them but what should a girl of 2 years, 3 years or 4 years should wear that they be not raped.”

Sources said the team of police officials was almost floored by these most genuine questions. Later the girls took the autograph of the police officials saying, “None had ever come to their school in the past.”

Inspector A K Mishra said, “Their questions were simply brilliant and relevant.”  It was a kind of irony that when this correspondent tried to contact Priyanka Anand four times on her active cell phone number to know her version she just did not take the call at the time of filing of this report.

Gupta in his address to the students asked them to do two things. First, he asked to get out of the TV box. He said a large number of girl students looked TV addicts. “Our team told them that TV is sending down cheap and substandard scenes right in our bedrooms through many serials. Second be bold to tell guardians, teachers and police who harass them in streets,” he said.

He said many girls told us when they tell their parents about inconveniences coming to them in the streets their parents advise them to ignore and move on.

The SDPO said, “Our team told them not to take such things lying down. They must do and act as this is the first step towards their own safety otherwise those elements who so harass or ogle at them will further step up their mischief towards them.”

At KGBA Vidalaya it was RR Shahi inspector Chainpur police station who conducted this campaign which was a great success.
