Passengers fall by 18% in J’suguda airport

Monday, 19 August 2019 | PNS | JHARSUGUDA

Approximately, 16,000 passengers travelled through the Jharsuguda airport in the month of July this year in comparison to over 19,000 passengers in June.  Thus, a decline of 18 per cent in passengers movement recorded in July.

On an average, over 525 passengers transit through the airport.  So far, over 59,000 passengers have travelled to various destinations served by Spicejet and Alliance Air from Jharsuguda.

During the rainy season as per trend available in aviation sector, a negative growth in passenger movement is a normal feature.   The other reason could be the withdrawal of Delhi-Jharsuguda-Delhi flight which is Boeing 737-800 having a capacity of 189 passengers on each Monday.  The inclement weather at the airport also contributed to some extent.

Recently, the AAI has upgraded the navigational infrastructure at the airport by commissioning DVOR and DME. Very recently, the Spicejet has been permitted by the DGCA to use it precisely. So, it shall reduce diversion or cancellation of flights due weather at Jharsuguda.
