Police officials of 3 States mull strategies

Senior police officials from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh held deliberations here on Thursday to prepare strategies to check Maoist threats and activities ahead of the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

The meeting was held under chairmanship of South-Western Range DIG Himanshu Lal.

According to sources, police officers from the three States have decided to focus on Maoist-dominated areas like Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam in Andhra Pradesh, Malkangiri and Koraput in Odisha and Dantewada and Sukma in Chhattisgarh.

Officials said joint operations would he conducted to meet any kind of eventuality during the poll. The police officials also discussed measures for smooth conduct of elections in these areas, the sources added.

The Maoists have been giving frequent calls to boycott the polls. They have also been targeting political workers, leaders and polling agents during campaigning and also on the election day.

The officials discussed strategies to be adopted for smooth conduct of the polls in the Maoist-infested areas and how to provide security to the candidates, the party workers and the officials to be involved in the election process.
