Rail corridor project: First goods train run on Kharsia-Korichhapar route

Under the Rail Corridor Project of the South East Central Railway (SECR), a goods train on Saturday made a maiden trip from Kharsia to Korichhapar (44 Kilometres) section of the 102- kilometres Kharsia-Dharamjaigarh railway project.

The 44 kilometres from Kharsia to Korichhapar has been cleared by authorities after inspection and on Saturday, the first goods train was operated. An empty rake of 58 wagons was flagged of from Kharsia station at 7.05 AM, which reached Korichhapar at 9.00 am. The rake was loaded and sent to Kumhari via Kharsia.

As per information, under the East Rail Project, in the first phase railway line is being laid from Kharsia to Gare Pelma IV 2 and 3 coal block, which is part of Mand Raigarh Coalfield in Gharghoda Tehsil of Raigarh district.

The project will connect Kharsia-Gharghoda-Korichhapar-Dharamjaigarh, Gharghoda to Donga Mahuwa, Gare Pelma covering 102 kilometres.

Around nine railway stations will be constructed on the route. The estimated cost of first phase of the project is Rs 3055 crore and out of the total project cost SECL will bear 64%, IRCON 25% and government of Chhattisgarh’s share is 10% of the project cost. The second phase will be construction of 62.5 kilometres railway line from Dharamjaigarh to Urga. Passengers services will also started soon.
