Monday, 11 February 2019 | PNS | Ranchi

The auspicious occasion of ‘Saraswati Puja’ that marks the onset of spring season was celebrated with fervour across the State. Chief Minister Raghubar Das on the auspicious occasion conveyed his best wishes to the people of Jharkhand, wishing them good health, wisdom and prosperity.

For the first time, mid-day meal was served among the students of Government schools following the communiqué of the Department. Recently, the Department of School Education and Literacy had announced that mid-day meal will be cooked and served in schools that remain open for Saraswati Puja celebration on Sunday.

Besides the usual rituals performed annually at different temples, quite a number of puja pandals was set up in the State Capital as well as other parts of the State.

The puja pandals decorated on a few popular themes like fairyland, replica of popular temples, heritages captured the attention of the pandal hoppers.

Elaborate arrangements were made for the occasion across the State. Idols of Goddess Saraswati were decorated in a traditional way while the priests performed the rituals on the educational institutions premises including other places.

Like every year, special arrangements were made on the premises of educational institutions, where numerous students offered prayer and celebrated the occasion. Students and all the staff members were present in yellow apparel to mark the occasion.

Following the traditions, a large number of toddlers on the auspicious day were made to perform several rituals as the pious day is considered to be the first day of their learning. Cultural programmes and other fun filled activities too marked the occasion at various places.

Wearing bright yellow clothes signifying the onset of spring, several devotees –primarily students and teenagers were seen seeking the blessings of the goddess at puja pandals. Although the rituals were carried out in the early morning, the celebrations continued throughout the day as people were seen hopping to the puja pandals with their family and friends.

Meanwhile, the Ranchi district administration peacefully managed the affair.

From deploying additional magistrates zone-wise, surveillance through CCTV cameras to ensuring restriction on playing objectionable songs at the puja pandals, the officials were on toes to prevent any untoward incident here in the State Capital.

“No untoward incident was reported here in the State Capital. The magistrates managed the affair tactfully as per the orders and with the co-ordination of several members associated with different puja samitis,” said, a senior official of Ranchi district administration.
