Tiwari slams Kejriwal, Sisodia after bail in defamation case

Wednesday, 17 July 2019 | PTI | NEW DELHI

Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Manoj Tiwari on Tuesday said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his deputy Manish Sisodia have lost their right to continue on their posts, hours after the two AAP leaders were granted bail in a criminal defamation case.

Leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including their chief Kejriwal, are sustaining their political journey through “lies”, Tiwari said at a press conference.

Kejriwal and Sisodia were granted bail by a court here in a criminal defamation case by Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly and BJP leader Vijender Gupta, who accused them of “maligining” his image by referring him to an alleged conspiracy to kill the chief minister.

The chief minister also got bail in another defamation case over his allegation that the BJP got deleted 30 lakh names from voters list, particularly of the Purvanchali, Bania and Muslim communities, during the Lok Sabha polls.

“They are used to getting bail and tendering apologies for their lies. They have lost the moral right to the constitutional posts held by them,” Tiwari said. Gupta said the people of Delhi are ready to give a farewell to Kejriwal and his party as they are “relying on lies”. Delhi BJP vice president Rajeev Babbar, who filed the case against

Kejriwal and other AAP leaders for alleging that the BJP had a role in deletion of voters’ names in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls, said it was a “political conspiracy” that was defeated by the people of Delhi.

The saffron party won all the seven parliamentary seats in the city in the 2019 general elections.

Soon after the chief minister in December 2018 accused the BJP of getting names of 30 lakh voters of particular communities deleted as part of a political conspiracy, AAP leaders spread the “lie” among the electorate, Babbar alleged, adding that even call centres were roped in for the purpose.

The Delhi BJP, through Babbar, has sought proceedings against Kejriwal, Rajya Sabha member Sushil Kumar Gupta, MLA Manoj Kumar and AAP spokesperson Atishi Malena for harming the reputation of the BJP by blaming it for deletion of names of “voters” from electoral rolls in Delhi. The other accused persons were earlier granted bail by the court.
