Chhattisgarh scoops National Water Award

The National Water Award for the year 2019 will be given to the State Chhattisgarh for commendable works on conservation and promotion of water sources in two of its districts – Bilaspur and Surajpur.

The project is part of the Narva Development Program by the Union Ministry of Water and has been completed in two years time under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel ranking its districts first in the category across the country.

While Bilaspur has completed a project for renovation of the river and drains, district Surajpur has completed a project on water conservation.

The award will be given this month end also complimenting Baghel for giving a new ease life to the rural economy of the state with the vision of saving the four icons of Chhattisgarh- 'Narva, Garuva, Ghurwa and Bari'.

Under Narva program, large number of rivers and drains are being conserved and promoted in all districts of the state. With this, availability of drinking water is ensured, along with the development of irrigation resources, and recharge of ground water, giving a new life to the rural economy.

A Government information said water enrichment structures will be built on 58 drains of Indravati Tiger Reserve, 42 at Guru Ghasidas National Park, 28 on Achanakmar Tiger Reserve, 11 of Kanger Valley National Park, 10 of Udanti Sitanadi Tiger Reserve and two drains of Tamoripingala Elephant Reserve.
