A team of Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Sector-17 of the Haryana police arrested four accused on Monday in connection with firing at a mosque in Gurugram's Dhankot village.

According to police, the culprits revealed that they were very angry with the people of the Tablighi Jamaat gathering at Nizamuddin Markaz spreading corona virus in several States, and had reached the mosque and ensure nobody was hiding there.

The accused have been identified as Vinod (40), Pawan aka Fighter (41) are a residents of Basai village in Gurugram, Aalam Khan (39) is a resident of Devilal Colony and Harkesh (18) hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Bareli. The police have recovered the pistol and the vehicle Gypsy which was used in the crime.

“During preliminary interrogation, it came to fore that the four accused were, on Saturday, talking about the Covid-19 matter across the nation, and were scared by the news emerging regarding it, and regarding the coronavirus patients caught at the Nizamuddin Markaj,” said Preetpal Singh Sagwan, ACP (crime) of Gurugram Police.

According to police officials a few days ago, they came to know through social media that some 6 people had been similarly caught at the Masjid in Dankot village. “They were angered by this information and made a plan to go to the Masjid and check its premises to ensure no other Coronavirus infected person was hiding inside it,” Sagwan said.

The four accused, police said, took a Gypsy vehicle belonging to Pawan and Vinod took a pistol. “All the four accused reached to the mosque and knocked down the gate of the mosque and when they didn’t get any response Vinod took the pistol in his hand and fired one shot towards the Masjid and another in the other direction,” Sangwan said.

The incident had come to light on Saturday night, when the Imaam sleeping on the terrace of the Masjid, Shahid, had give written complaint to the police.

A case in this regard was registered at the Rajendra Park Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
