618 new infections, State reports 16,500 Covid cases

Jharkhand recorded six Covid casualties and 618 fresh cases of novel coronavirus on Friday. With six deaths on Friday, the death toll in the state due to corona infection has crossed 150 marks.

The final death toll as per health bulletin stands at 151, while the number of active cases is 8840, at the same time 7491 persons have won the battle against corona after they were discharged from hospital on recovery from infection. The six deaths include one each from Dhanbad, East Singhbhum, Ramgarh and Palamu, while two persons from Hazaribag district died today.

On Friday 618 positive cases were reported from different parts of the State while at the same time 809 persons recovered from infection. This is the second consecutive day in the last few weeks that the number of single day recovery of patients is more than the number of persons admitted in hospitals.

With the rise in recovery of patients the recovery rate of the State in the last three days has jumped to 45.44 per cent. Few days back the Covid recovery rate had gone to 34 per cent. However, despite a spike in the recovery rate in the past few days, the State recovery rate is still much below than the national average. The national recovery rate is 67.62 per cent, while Delhi recovery rate is 89.84 per cent.

But the state mortality rate is lower than the national average. The State mortality rate is 0.91 per cent while the national mortality rate is 2.07 per cent.

Sources said that with the return of striking paramedics to work there will be improvement in health services to corona patients.

In a big relief the three day long strike of contractual paramedical staff came to end on Friday after written assurance from the health minister and health secretary to look into the demands of striking para medics. The minister and health secretary agreed to provide Rs 50 lakh insurance cover on death of para medics due to corona infection. Earlier, the chief minister had a meeting with the health minister, chief secretary, and health secretary in this connection.
