Chandigarh reports one Covid fatality, 67 fresh infections

One more resident succumbed to Covid-19 as 67 fresh positive cases were reported in Chandigarh on Monday.

With this, the death toll reached 277 while the total case tally was recorded at 17409, stated Chandigarh Health Department’s evening bulletin.

A 54 years old male resident of Sector 37, a case of kidney disease and chronic liver disease, who was tested COVID positive, expired at PGIMER.

The COVID fatality rate in the city was recorded at 1.59 percent. The recovery rate was recorded at 92.3 percent while the active ratio of cases was recorded at 6.1 percent which means for every 100 confirmed cases, 6 are currently infected in the city.

There were 1062 active cases till the evening. 114 patients have recovered in the past 24 hours pushing the total number of recoveries to 16070, the bulletin said.

Among 67 fresh cases, 35 were males and 32 were females.  A maximum of 18 cases were reported in Sector 15 in the last 24 hours.

The fresh cases were reported in Sectors 9, 15, 16, 18, 20, 21, 22, 24, 27, 30, 33, 34, 35, 37, 40, 41, 44, 46, 47 49, 51, 56, 63, Manimajra, Palsora, Raipur Khurd and Sarangpur, as per the health bulletin.

142326 samples have so far been tested in the city. A total of 710 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours and the report of 136 was awaited, the bulletin added.A spokesman of the UT Administration said that the UT Health Department has been sending mobile COVID testing teams to different locations of the city since the last two months to prevent the spread of COVID 19.

The testing has been further upscaled after the decision was taken that the testing should be undertaken specifically at public places like Sukhna Lake , Rock Garden, Railway Station and markets, the spokesman said.

102 samples were collected from the Railway Station on Monday and 115 samples were collected from Sukhna Lake a day before. The mobile testing teams have also been conducting tests at the Bus Stand regularly since November 17, he added.
