A doctor, who worked in a prominent hospital in Gurugram, allegedly committed suicide by injecting himself with a poisonous substance at his flat on Saturday. It is suspected that he was mentally disturbed over his wife’s alleged extramarital affair, the police said.

Police said, they have received a complaint against the deceased’s wife given by the victim’s father Vinod Sodhi at Sector-50 police station in Gurugram.

According to the police the deceased has been identified as Manuj Sodhi (47), a native of Bhiwadi in Rajasthan. The victim was a doctor in a hospital in Gurugram and he was posted at the ICU ward.

Sodhi was living with his wife Monika and children in his Gurugram flat located in Orchid Petals Society at Sector-49. The couple had a love marriage around 22 years ago, the police said.

The father of the deceased, Vinod Sodhi, said in his police complaint that Monika is a teacher in a renowned school in Gurugram.

“Manuj told him that his wife has been having an affair with someone for three years. This made him tense. On Saturday, under stress, Manuj injected himself with poison,” Vinod told the police.

“The neighbour of the deceased had informed the police after they saw the victim in an unconscious state and immediately rushed him to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,” Vinod stated to the police.

Thereafter police reached the hospital and took the body of the victim and kept it in the mortuary for medical examination.

“The probe team is investigating the matter. The team will also get more inputs from the victim’s family. Further investigations are being conducted, said Subhash Boken, spokesperson of the Gurugram police.
