Casting aspersions on the dramatic surrender of Kanpur carnage mastermind Vikas Dubey at Mahakal temple of Ujjain, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra demanded a CBI probe to unravel the mystery.
Justifying her demand, the Gandhi scion said that in order to reveal the nexus between the gangster and higher-ups, a CBI probe was necessary.
“After the heinous murders of police officers and personnel in Kanpur, the promptness with which the UP government should have acted, proved to be a total failure. Despite the alert, the killer reached Ujjain which shows the laxity in the security apparatus and also hints at connivance,” Priyanka tweeted in Hindi on Thursday.
In another tweet, she posted, “The ‘no action’ on a three-month-old letter and the name of Vikas Dubey not being in the list of notorious criminals suggest that the connections are far-reaching. The UP government should conduct a CBI inquiry into the matter and reveal all facts and the protection-connections.”
Earlier, Priyanka had attacked the Yogi Adityanath government, saying that it was hiding the actual figures of rising lawlessness and crime across the state. She averred that hiding crime figures was the main reason why “criminals were unstoppable” in UP.
“They have complete protection from the government. Our hard-working and honest officers and jawans are paying a heavy price because of this,” she added.
The Congress leader has been unrelenting in her attacks against the UP government over the past few months and emerged as a very vocal opposition leader in UP.
Besides, several prominent leaders and parties attacked the UP Police and the state government over the dramatic surrender of Dubey and termed it as “staged surrender”.
Taking a jibe at the state government and UP Police, politician Kumar Vishwas said, “Vikas Dubey is the product of an unethical alliance of politics, bureaucracy and government. In the last seven days, the way this man has made the elected government and police of Uttar Pradesh dance to his tunes, it is very clear that UP was never free of an alliance between criminals and governments and is not free presently”
Congress leader Imran Pratapgarhi, called Dubey’s arrest a “planned screenplay” and said that the in-charge of Mahakal Mandir police outpost was transferred just on Wednesday and the screenplay of Dubey’s surrender was acted out.
“Now the country will have to decide who is director of this screenplay,” he said.
Several people questioned the presence of media outside Mahakal temple in Ujjain while Dubey was arrested.
Rashtriya Lok Dal national spokesman Anil Dubey asked the UP government to clarify whether Bikru village carnage mastermind Vikas Dubey surrendered or was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police.
He said it seemed that Vikas Dubey had political patronage of the UP government and demanded a high level probe monitored by a High Court judge to bring out the truth.
“Only a probe under the a High Court judge will reveal the truth related to the arrest drama of Vikas Dubey and the massacre of policemen in Kanpur,” he said.
Dubey said the arrest of Vikas Dubey in Ujjain exposed the politician, police and mafia nexus. “The families of the martyred policemen should get justice,” he added.
