Historical Jhanda Mela in Doon from today

The stage is set for raising of the new flag pole at Jhanda Sahib in Dehradun on Friday with the start of the historical Jhanda Mela at 8 AM. According to the organisers, the raising of the new flag pole will be undertaken between 3 PM and 5 PM. The Darbar Sahib Mahant Devendra Dass will direct raising of the holy flag pole.  On behalf of Shri Darbar Sahib Management Committee, all the necessary arrangements for the Jhanda Mela were accorded final touches on Thursday evening. The ‘Gurumantra’ was delivered to the Sangat devotees by Mahant Devendra Dass on Thursday evening. The Sangat devotees were blessed by receiving the ‘Gurumantra’.

While addressing the devotees, the Mahant exhorted all to keep away from social evils like female foeticide, intoxication and dowry while also ensuring their significant roles in building a prosperous society and nation. He also expressed serious concern on the issue of environmental conservation. He appealed to the devotees to go for afforestation and conserving water resources.Manager of the Jhanda Mela management committee, KC Juyal informed that the fair will begin on Friday at 8 AM. In the morning, the old sacred flag pole will be brought down.

The Sangat devotees will then bathe the new flag pole with milk, curd, butter, Ganga water and ‘Panchgavya’. From 10 AM, the ceremony on putting on ‘Gilaafs’ (covers) over the new flag pole will be initiated. The new flag pole will then be raised under the Mahant’s directions between 3 PM and 5 PM.

Meanwhile, proper security arrangements have been made by police administration in order to ensure peace and order during the main programme and the Jhanda Mela. At the fair site, the police have opened a special Mela Thana. Five vehicles equipped to extinguish fire will also be deployed at the site.

A total of 40 closed circuit television cameras have also been installed at the Mela site by the management committee of the Jhanda Mela. A team of doctors from Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital has been made available at the fair site. Free of cost medicines will also be provided to the patients by the hospital. The ambulance of the hospital will also be there in order to handle any emergency.

Apart from these arrangements, one large LED screen each has been installed by management committee at Darshani Gate, Bhandari Chowk, Saharanpur Chowk and at Shri Darbar Sahib. These will enable the multitudes to see the live telecast of the programme at the fair site.
