Rs 32.1 cr inadequate to meet salary of 6 colleges: Cong

Thursday, 24 September 2020 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

Delhi Congress president Anil Kumar said despite repeatedly raising the issue of  non-payment of salaries to the employees of 12 Colleges fully funded by  the Delhi Government, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has reluctantly released only Rs 32.1 crore to six colleges of Delhi University to pay the salaries of the staffers.

Kumar said that the amount is inadequate to meet the entire salary bills of even these six colleges including arrears as the 12 colleges have not disbursed salaries to the staff since May, 2020.

“The Kejriwal Government was deliberately harassing the teaching and non-teaching staff of these 12 colleges by withholding the grant-in-aid and asking these colleges to hike the fees and dip into the reserve funds of the colleges to pay the salaries, which was no solution to the problem,” he said.

The Congress president also condemned the Delhi Municipal Corporations’ move to resume sealing of industrial units in residential areas, which will affect over 13,000 industrial units across the Capital. He said that this sealing drive will only accentuate the plight of the people, already ruined by the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown and lakhs of people and labourers will be unemployed.

“The 13000 industrial units surveyed, 9000 have been issued notices for sealing, which should be stopped forthwith considering the existing difficult situation,” he said.
