City witnessed its third death from corona after a 55-year-old man died of Covid-19 at the Tata Main Hospital on Sunday morning. The patient who died of the Covid was a 55-year-old man and was suffering from cancer.
A resident of Pardeshipara in Sonari, the deceased was admitted at the Tata Main Hospital's Covid ward on July 2 after he was tested positive. He succumbed to the illness at 2 am today, leading the officials of civic body, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) to cremate the body at the Subernarekha crematorium in Bhuiyandih this afternoon.
District surveillance officer, AK Lal informed that the man who died of COVID today had travel history and was suspected to have contacted the Coronavirus while shuttling between Kolkata and Jamshedpur in sequel to his treatment of cancer.
" As per information gathered the deceased had been to Kolkata a number of times in the past six months in sequel to his treatment of cancer. In fact it is a case of co-morbidity as the cancer was also in an advanced condition. After some symptoms had appeared in him, suggesting that he might have been infected with Coronavirus, the district health department had carried out a swab test on June 30 and eventually he was tested positive," said Lal.
Meanwhile, sensing trouble, the administration had made adequate police arrangements to ensure an easy cremation of the victim at the Subernarekha crematorium. Moreover, the residents of adjoining Bhuiyandih Slum had also not protested like they had done earlier.
Ravi Bharti, city manager, JNAC who supervised the cremation informed that they followed the protocol in getting the body disposed of and had allowed the deceased's son to do the last rite at the crematorium. The victim’s dead body was not handed over to the family members and was disposed- off as the protocol by the civic body, Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC).
The Kolhan Division which was under green zone, came under coronavirus map with two persons testing positive at Chakulia, under East Singhbhum district on May 12. Several other persons tested positive have travel history from Maharashtra, Delhi, Gurugram and Chennai.
The city witnessed its first COVID death when a 71-year-old man who was a resident of Sonari died at the Tata Main Hospital on July 4. About an hour later an 88-year-old woman who was admitted at the Tata Main Hospital died of pneumonia at the hospital. The hospital authority sent the swab sample of the deceased for examination to the MGM Medical College, where the test report came out Covid-19 positive at about 11 pm.
The 88-year-old woman who was a resident of Baradwari in Sakchi had been admitted at the Tata Main Hospital on June 21 for treatment of pneumonia, but three days after her admission, the patient had a breathing problem and later she died.
