A new study has found that cardiac arrest occurs in around 20 per cent of the patients with severe COVID-19 symptoms; a large number of them will require immediate resuscitative efforts. People infected with COVID-19 have a higher risk of dying after a cardiac arrest. Minutes matter when it comes to saving lives. That is when two specific training comes into play - — Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid.

The CPR is an emergency procedure that combines chest compressions often with artificial ventilation in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest.

First aid is the immediate and temporary aid provided to a sick or injured person until medical treatment can be provided. It generally consists of a series of simple, life-saving medical techniques that a non-doctor or any person can be trained to perform with minimal equipment.

When it comes to CPR and first aid training, many think there’s no point for those not in the medical field. That could not be further from the truth, though. People in many careers benefit from being CPR and first aid certified.

Top five institutes offering CPR and first aid certification course.

Henry Harvin: The training course includes CPR training where all participants are trained on the life-saving techniques — CPR which is frequently during emergency situations like heart attacks, drowning and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The eight hours classroom sessions also helps participants to learn and know extensively about the role of first aider, learn various things to tell to ambulance services (EMS), know first aid treatment for medical emergencies and be well acquainted with first aid treatment of trauma emergencies as well as learn about the first aid techniques for environmental emergencies like snake bite, burns, heat stroke, amongst others. The On successful completion all participants earn certification along with 100% placement assistance.

Global Institute of Health Science (GIHS): The certification in first aid course covers a wide range of topics to enable participants to confidently manage emergency situations, providing care for the ill or injured until medical aid arrives. It trains participants with the skills to manage emergency first aid situations, including managing the unconscious casualty, performing CPR, controlling bleeding and managing other life threatening situations. The objectives of the training course are to update the participant’s first aid skills and knowledge, and to enable them to carry out appropriate first aid in an emergency situation.

Phoenix Institute off CPR and Defibrillation: It is an International Training Centre (ITC) of the American Heart Association (AHA) and provides internationally recognised certifications in basic life support and advanced cardiac life support. This course provides the foundation for saving lives from cardiac arrest. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics. The course duration is six hours and mode of instruction is audio-visual and hands on skill training with dummies. The course curriculum covers new science and education from the 2015 AHA Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC, components of high-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants and importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member.
