‘All migrant workers be registered’

Tuesday, 04 May 2021 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

On May Day, a webinar on rights of labour was organised by Utkal Sammilani Central Committee under  chairmanship of Basant Kumar Tripathy.

Over thirty participants from across the State and other States took part in the programme. While advocate Bishnu Prasad Sharma and activist Rajiv Sagaria placedbackground of migration trail from western Odisha, Sammilani Titilagarh branch president Gajanan Mishra and central president Basanta Tripathy discussed various aspects of migration issue.

Despite the various provisions of social security provided to migrants under Inter State Migrant Workmen Act 1979, the establishments engaging migrant labourers are not implementing law.  In this context, Sammilani decided to submit a memorandum to Government demanding that all establishments engaging migrant labourers be registered and the Government and enforcement authorities be asked to enforce law in full spirit in Odisha so that establishments would engage local labourers rather than outsiders. The summing up of webinar was done by Sammilani general secretary Radhanath Praharaj.
