In view of widespread cases of Covid-19 in jails, the State Government has decided to release 221 more prisoners on a special parole. A high-power committee of the Home Department approved this to decongest the number of jail inmates during second wave of coronavirus infections.

As per the decision, 221 more prisoners would be allowed to get parole for a period of 90 days. Earlier, 449 prisoners had been permitted to go on a special parole. So far, 670 prisoners have been released from jails on special parole.
