Two more persons died from coronavirus in Chandigarh on Saturday as 294 fresh cases pushed the infection count to 25,898 in the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana.

According to a health bulletin, the number of people who died from the infection in the union territory has reached 374. The number of active cases rose to 2532 on Saturday, the bulletin said. A total of 152 patients were discharged after they recovered from the infection, taking the number of cured persons to 22, 992, it said. So far, 3, 03, 963 samples have been taken for testing, of which 2,77,045 tested negative while reports of 168 are awaited, it said.

As many as 1516 beneficiaries were given the Covid-19 vaccine at 54 sites in the city on Saturday. Among the total beneficiaries, a maximum of 841 were above 60 years of age, who got their first dose of vaccine. The beneficiaries also included healthcare and frontline workers. A total of 74, 308 beneficiaries have been vaccinated in the city so far.
