A male elephant from Sambalpur forests has created havoc  in Chandnimal and Tareikela villages under Kolabira Range here. Besides eating vegetables, the elephant damaged four houses injuring a woman and her son.

On Thursday night, the elephant entered the Chandnimal village and damaged house of one Suresh Khadia and Sankirtan Khadia eating their rice stock. When the family members woke up and raised alarm, the elephant fled. But, Suresh's wife Sumita and son Sakti got head injuries when a wall collapsed on them while sleeping.

Then, the elephant damaged the vegetables of Bikram Banchor and while trying to  break open the door of the house, the villagers got alert and chased away the elephant by producing noise.

Being informed, forest officers reached the village to trace the elephant. But, the elephant then had entered the  Tareikela village and dragged a rice bag breaking wall of a house of Laxmi Rout. When the villagers created noise the elephant fled to Mahulmunda forest.
