Inauguration of incomplete BBMKU building stirs controversy

Monday, 26 July 2021 | Pankaj Kumar | DHANBAD

Inauguration of an incomplete building of the Binod Behari Mahto Koylanchal University (BBMKU) has triggered a controversy with select persons demanding action on University authorities for keeping the Chancellor and Chief Minister in dark over this issue.

Surprisingly, the district administration also was not aware of the fact or it deliberately covered up the fact about the half-constructed building in the administrative as well as academic block, sources said.

Chancellor Ramesh Vaish and chief minister Hemant Soren jointly inaugurated this building virtually on July 22. This was the day when the first but virtual convocation too was organised by the university authorities.

Both dignitaries inaugurated the incomplete building in presence of Dhanbad MP and MLA. No other dignitary either from the administration or the political fraternity were invited to the programme.

According to the contractor’s representative at the construction spot, the buildings may take one more year for completion and furnishings. The work for fitting doors and windows of this seven storeyed building is to commence as we get funds. The representative who refused to be named, said work was delayed due to lockdown.

Confirming the contractor’s version, CCDC of BBMKU Dr.DK Giri said that a demand of Rs 89 crores for furnishing of buildings has been submitted to the government. However, he mentioned that the inauguration was planned to put pressure on the contractors to complete building soon as lease of both academic and administrative building at the polytechnic building is to end by October this year.

Meanwhile, supporters of Sindri MLA Indrjeet  Mahto burnt effigy of VC AK Srivastava  for not putting the lawmaker’s name on the inaugural plaque. Sindri BJP town committee members  who burnt effigy of VC claim that since University building coming up at Bhelatand locality is part of Sindri assembly segment Sindri MLA’s name deserves to be there on the plaque.
