Monday, 01 March 2021 | Staff Reporter | NEW DELHI

As the Switch Delhi campaign enters its fourth week, Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot has appealed to all “Residents Welfare Associations” (RWAs) to make the  campaign a mass movement.

Gahlot said, “RWAs are instrumental in encouraging citizen’s participation in ensuring better living environments and have played an important role in the development of Delhi.”

As the campaign enters the fourth week, our focus is to connect with each RWA in Delhi and urge them to undertake the mass awareness activity in their area to make the campaign a Jan Andolan.

The MLAs, RWAs and citizens of adjoining neighbourhoods need to work together to plan and engage local authorities to ensure a smooth transition to electric vehicles.

“RWAs and MLAs can play a major role in making the citizens aware of the environmental benefits of switching to an EV and incentives that can be availed under Delhi Government’s EV policy by organizing a door-to-door sensitization drive.

The minister further said, “We encourage RWAs to take the Switch Delhi Pledge to install charging points in at least five per cent of parking spots in your area. This will assure residents of proper charging infrastructure on their premises and ensure an effortless transition for Delhiites.”

The Delhi Government is taking all measures to help citizens overcome the apprehensions regarding the charging of EV vehicles and enable a smooth transition in the city.

Over 70 public charging stations are already operational in Delhi. Additionally, 500 charging points are coming up on 100 locations soon. Subsidies up to Rs. 1.5 lakhs, scrapping benefits up to Rs. 7,500 and over 100 models for two, three and four wheelers are covered under EV policy making it easy for the citizens to making the switch.

Switch Delhi is an eight-week mass awareness campaign by the Delhi Government to sensitize each Delhiite about the benefits of switching to EVs to the environment as well as to make them aware of the incentives and infrastructure being developed under Delhi’s EV policy.

The campaign aims at informing, encouraging, and motivating every person in Delhi to switch from polluting vehicles to zero-emission electric vehicles.
