A four-day training programme on alloy design and thermo-mechanical processing (ADTP-21) is being organised at the CSIR-NML on the virtual platform.
Under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative program which is a national program on skill development initiated by “Council of Scientific and Industrial Research†a training program was organized by CSIR- National Metallurgical Laboratory, Jamshedpur in the month of December 2021. This was a four-day program and was titled as “Alloy Design & Thermo-mechanical Processing (ADTP-21)â€.
This training program is aimed to give training and exposure to working professionals in alloy design and thermo-mechanical processing. This training program is expected to improve the understanding of the participants in various areas of materials & process selection, alloy design, thermo-mechanical processing of ferrous, non-ferrous & high entropy alloys, computational approaches of materials thermodynamics and alloy design of Additive Manufacturing (AM) materials. The training schedule includes 4 modules covering topics related to all these areas.
On December 14, 2021 the inaugural program started at 9.00 am. The emcee Dr Sanghita Mridha welcomed the participants. This was followed by a speech by Dr KL Sahoo, Chief Scientist, Materials Engineering Division. He discussed the CSIR-NML and the CSIR Integrated skill training initiative. He brought out some facts about the skill gap that exists in the youth of India and narrated skill training programs conducted every year by NML in an attempt to fill this gap. Dr Sandeep Ghosh Chowdhury, Head, MTE division, CSIR-NML briefly talked about the program. Following the introduction of the program by Dr. Chowdhury, CSIR-NML Director Dr I Chattoraj addressed audience.
Dr Chattoraj informed the participants about NML’s contribution to country in domain of new alloy development. He also discussed the earlier practice of alloy design which was based on hit and trial approach.
According to him, we can now tailor the alloy using different computational approaches which reduce time and cost. In this training the participants are going to learn these methods. The inaugural program came to an end with insightful and inspiring talk by DrChattoraj.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. G. K. Mandal, Principal Scientist at CSIR-NML. The virtual program was attended by more than 25 people from various organizations all over India.
