Sidhu, Sukhbir condemn assault on youth by Delhi Police

Monday, 12 April 2021 | PNS | Chandigarh

A day after cousin of gangster-turned-activist Lakha Sidhana, also one of the main accused in Republic Day violence case, was allegedly thrashed by the Delhi Police after his arrest from Punjab, Congress MLA Navjot Singh Sidhu and SAD president Sukhbir Badal condemned the development.

Sidhu, the former Minister, took to Twitter on Sunday to express his resentment for allowing the Delhi Police to torture Punjabis in Punjab’s domain and territory, in a veiled attack on his bête noire, the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh.

“Shameful that Delhi Police is allowed to torture Punjabis in our domain and territory. It violates Punjab Govt’s authority - with whose connivance was it done?? Lessons should be learnt from Mamata Banerjee who put CBI behind bars when they encroached in W. Bengal’s jurisdiction,” Sidhu tweeted.

Sukhbir, who also condemned the incident while holding the Chief Minister directly responsible, demanded registration of a criminal case against the Delhi Police team which allegedly abducted and tortured Mundi Sidhana.

Notably, Lakha Sidhana, who is on the run, on Saturday alleged that the Delhi Police abducted his cousin Gurdeep Singh from Patiala and beat him badly.

Sidhana said that the intelligence wing of the Delhi Police, which arrested Deep Sidhu, took away his cousin from Patiala who had gone there to give his law exam. He alleged the police repeatedly asked Gurdeep to tell his whereabouts.

Sidhana said that he completely blame Capt Amarinder Singh government as how could Delhi Police officials come here and take away a youth without informing the police station concerned.

Gurdeep was brought to the Civil Hospital by Sidhana’s supporters, where his condition is stated to be serious. Dr Ravinder Singh at the emergency ward said that Gurdeep suffered injuries on the back and legs.

Sukhbir demanded that the Chief Minister should stand up to protect the rights of the youth of the state and register a criminal case against the Delhi police team which abducted and tortured Mundi Sidhana.
