Tiwari’s wife reaches HC for CBI inquiry of case against husband

Friday, 17 September 2021 | PNS | Ranchi

Lalima Tiwari, wife of Sunil Tiwari, on Thursday filed a petition at Jharkhand High Court to seek CBI inquiry of the allegation of sexual harassment against her husband stating that the police action against her husband is politically motivated.

The petitioner said that her husband is hounded and harassed since he is an intervener in a sensitive case. She has demanded a probe either by the CBI or any independent agency so that her husband gets justice. She pleaded that Tiwari will not get justice from Jharkhand Police.

Notably, Sunil Tiwari, who is a journalist turned political advisor of former chief minister and BJP leader Babulal Marandi was arrested a few days back from Etawah after a local court in Ranchi issued an arrest warrant against him.

A girl who was working as the domestic help at the residence of Tiwari had lodged an FIR at Argora police station in Ranchi 229/2021 in August against him. She claimed that she was repeatedly raped by him. Ranchi police also got her statement recorded before the court under section 164 of CrPC.

But from the very first day Tiwari and his family have been maintaining that he is being haunted for political reasons. The family claimed that the victim was pressured by the police to lodge an FIR against him. The family also claimed that they were taking best care of the girl right from her childhood days. The girl was also well educated and they took care of her as their daughter.
