'JDAA has always used funds transparently'

Saturday, 25 June 2022 | RAJ KUMAR SHARMA | JHARSUGUDA

In a press  meet organised by Jharsuguda District Athletics Association (JDAA) on Sunday, general  secretary of the JDAA Tapas Roy Chowdhury refuted allegations of any misuse of funds in the organisation and claimed that owing to the organisation's efforts, the sports facilities and standards have significantly improved over the last few years.

Chowdhury said that since its registration in 1985, the association has played an instrumental role in elevating the stature of sports in the district. From the athletes' training to providing the top-quality equipment to organising large competitions, the federation has raised the bar for sports in the district. "Since 2017, our players have brought laurels at State, national and international competitions. As a result, Jharsuguda has emerged as a hub of sports talent in the State," he told.

Choudhary further informed media that from 2017 to 2021, the association has received the assistance of only Rs 37 lakh from the DMF fund. "Our audit report has transparently declared a detailed account of our expenditure and other transactions.Transparency has been observed while spending funds and facing different audit teams," said Chowdhury said.

On the question of holding a position in the association while associating with a political party, Chowdhury said that the matter is under consideration, and he wouldn't comment on it.

The secretary read  out reports mentioning the medals won by the sports persons at different times in the earlier years. He revealed that steps have been taken to acquire land for construction of the association's office building.
