AIIMS Bhopal ED Ajai Singh discusses about its expansion plans

The Executive Director of AIIMS, Bhopal Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh talked about the expansion plan in the hospital and the facilities being provided to the patients.

While talking to media persons here on Wednesday, Singh informed about the medical services being provided at present and his future plans about expansion of some facilities in the institute.

At present 42 departments are functional in the institute and due to non-availability of faculty members in 02 departments, they could not be started. Apart from this, it is being planned to start 06 new departments in the near future, he added.

At present 02 drug portals namely Amrit Pharmacy and Jan Aushadhi Kendra are functional in the institute, in which medicines are made available at 40-60 percent discount. To increase the availability of medicines for the patients of the hospital, a rate contract will be done by the institute very soon, so that in future patients will not have to go out for medicines.

The treatment of poor patients admitted in the hospital will not be stopped due to paucity of money and the institute will get such poor patients treated at its level.

He stated that a new CT-scan machine will soon be installed in the Radiodiagnosis department to speed up the diagnostic facilities available in the institute.

Presently 09 dialysis machines are available in the institute and soon a dialysis facility will be added in the ICU ward of the hospital so that such serious patients requiring dialysis can be provided the facility in ICU itself.

Presently 950 beds in the General Ward and 150 beds are available in the ICU ward. The number of beds in all the departments of the hospital will be increased by 10 percent.

The hospital building/facilities will be made more differently abled friendly, he added.

8. A wellness clinic will also be started very soon for better mental health for the students of the institute and mentorship program will also be started soon for better communication between the students of the institute, under which a postgraduate student will mentor 07 -08 students of undergraduate courses and one faculty member will mentor 02 PG students for being in touch with all the students of the institute. The mentors will try to understand and to solve the study related problems of the students by discussing with them. In the near future a "Department of Happiness" will also be opened in the institute that will be a completely new concept.

He informed that an approval has been received for the construction of 150 bed critical care unit in the institute and an MoU of Rs 98 crore has also been signed for its building construction work. Soon the parking system of the hospital will also be mended. Total 140 new type-3 quarters will also be constructed for the accommodation of the employees of the institute.
