Panic gripped people of villages near Daleighai, a major embankment of river Devi in Jagatsinghpur district, on Tuesday as the river was flowing above the danger level at 57 feet at Daleighai. Superintending Engineer, South Divisionm Bijaya Samal accompanied by other senior engineers visited Daleighai and embankments of other rivers like Paika, Mahanadi and Beluakhai to take stock of the situation and instructed departmental engineers to keep watch on the vulnerable embankments.
Samal said the villagers should not panic as his department has adopted several measures for strengthening the embankment at Daleighai and there is no chance of any breach at Daleighai.
Meanwhile, 190 people were evacuated from Samal Sahi near Daleighai when floodwaters entered their hamlet. ADM Satchidananda Sahoo is in charge of the Daleighai embankment.
