Jharkhand bags second spot in Urban Cleanliness

Sunday, 02 October 2022 | PNS | Ranchi

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the State has achieved many achievements in the direction of continuous development. In this sequence, on Saturday, the State was awarded a great honour by the Government of India. In the presence of President of the country Draupadi Murmu at Talkatora Stadium in New Delhi, Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri honoured Jharkhand as the second topper of the country in the Swachh Sarvekshan 2022 among 100 urban bodies.

On this occasion, Amit Kumar, Director, State Urban Development Agency under the Department of Urban Development and Housing, received the honour on behalf of the State Government. On this occasion, President Draupadi Murmu, Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, and Secretary, Department of Housing and Urban Affairs Manoj Joshi congratulated the Jharkhand Government, State Urban Development Department and the citizens of the State for this honour.

In Swachh Sarvekshan 2022, Jharkhand has been awarded the second topper award along with some other cities in various categories. Chaibasa has been awarded for Best Citizen Feedback in the Municipal Bodies of Eastern Zone having population of 50000 to 100000. Bundu has been awarded for Best Citizen Feedback in the Municipal Bodies of Eastern Zone having population of 15,000 to 25,000.

Three municipal bodies of Jharkhand have also been honoured in the Indian Cleanliness League organised by the Center on 17 September 2022 in cities across the country. On Friday, at the Talkatora Stadium itself, the Jamshedpur notified areas, Mango and Medinagar of Jharkhand were honoured by the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri for their better performance in the Indian Swachhta League. The Deputy Commissioners of Jamshedpur and Palamu were present on this occasion.

It is worth mentioning that the position of Jharkhand in the Swachh Sarvekshan 2016 was not very appreciable, but in the continuous Swachh Sarvekshan 2017,2018,2019,2020,2021 and 2022, the state has made efforts in the field of cleanliness under the able guidance of the people of the state and urban bodies and the state government.

Several important steps have been taken by the department and bodies in Swachh Survekshan 2022. Before Swachh Survekshan 2022, meetings, workshops and campaigns were organized in all the bodies. Programmes were organized to ensure participation of every section of the society. Door to door waste collection ensured. Segmentation and processing of waste was given priority. Municipal bodies and citizens were encouraged for peat composting and onsite composting. Recyclers were linked with municipal bodies. Carry bags were banned and the use of single-use plastics was reduced. Cleanliness related problems were quickly resolved through the Swachhata App.

Secretary, Urban Development and Housing, Vinay Kumar Choubey has expressed the hope of better performance from the department in the next survey, giving credit to the efficient guidance of the Chief Minister and cooperation of citizens for this success.

State Urban Development Agency and Mission Director of Swachh Bharat Mission Urban Amit Kumar has said that this moment is a moment of pride for Jharkhand. He congratulated the officials, workers, sanitation workers and citizens of all the municipal bodies and said that this honour will inspire even better work.
