A nationwide protest day was organised here by the United Kisan Morcha Odisha unit on Saturday before the State Assembly against the Modi Government's policy of deceiving farmers.
The Morcha put forth an 11- point charter of demands and threatened to intensify the agitation in the coming days if the Central and State Governments do not meet the demands of the farmers immediately.
The demands include legal guarantee for payment of minimum support price (MSP) plus 50% of total cost of production to farmers for all crops as recommended by the MS Swaminathan National Farmers Commission, waiver of all loans of agricultural labourers, nomads, poor and middle farmers and repeal of anti-people Electricity Amendment Bill-2022.
These apart, they demanded dismissal and arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni in the Laxmipur Kheri farmer murder case, immediate release of the innocent farmers imprisoned under false charges in the murder case and a comprehensive farmer-friendly crop insurance scheme to cover all crop losses due to natural calamities, animal attacks and various disease attacks, etc.
The Morcha also demanded that the entire paddy produced by the farmers of Odisha be procured in the Government Mandi system and all arrears of farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana be released forthwith.
