Move to set up bank note paper mill

Wednesday, 07 September 2022 | Ubachak Mohanty

A three-member RBI team visited Baleswar district on Tuesday before taking a final call on setting up a unit of Bank Note Paper Mill (BNPM) India Pvt Ltd in the district.

The delegation of top executives of the company, district Collector DB Shinde, ADM (Revenue) Bhabesh Nayak, IDCO officials and the Remuna Tehsildar visited the identified site at village Padabadagaon under Remuna block.

Notably, it was the third visit of RBI officials for on-spot verification to ascertain the feasibility for setting up BNPM in Baleswar. The requirement of land is about 150 acres. Reports said that for setting up the plant Government land is available. The team came to assess the other key aspects, including road connectivity, electricity and water supply. They also had discussions with the district administration about the flood threat due to the Budhabalanga river although the identified patch is far off from the riverbank.

The district administration has asserted that there were enough causeways for draining excess rain and flood waters. Adequate Government land is available for the plant, but private land will be required for construction of road. And the villagers are ready to part with their lands after getting compensation, reports said.

Earlier, a team had visited two sites, Padabadagaon and Baunsmuha.
