Work on phase 2 urban water supply scheme in Daltonganj has been sanctioned by the State government. BJP MP V D Ram at his press conference here today said the scheme is worth Rs161.77 crore and the Asian Development Bank is to provide funds.

Terming this as a very ambitious urban water supply scheme he said tender of it would be floated in a week or so and work on it is to be completed in two years. Asked as to from where water is to be arranged for this scheme the MP said our own river the Koyal.

Again reminded that this river the Koyal is a rain fed river and goes a total dry in the summer to which the MP said this issue has been well taken care of. JIUDCO made the plan for this scheme.

The urban water supply scheme will cater to one lakh twenty thousand households in the corporation area at the rate of 135 litres of water a household a day.

Sources said the secretary of the urban development and housing department Vinay Choubey saw the scheme through.

Sources said as the secretary Vinay Choubey had had his stint here as DC Palamu he knew the pains of the residents here for the drinking water in the summer.

Water is bought in buckets and marriages in the summer are arranged as per the availability of pure drinking water. The MP said a company SMS Paryavaran which was to complete this urban water supply scheme here just flopped only to get itself black listed by the government further plunging this water starved Medininagar or Daltonganj craving for drinking water for little over four years.

Mayor Aruna Shankar, BJP district president Vijayanand Pathak and senior BJP leader Vijay Ojha took part in the press conference of the MP.
