Police bust a vehicle lifters’ gang, 28 bikes recovered

The Katni police have busted a vehicle lifter gang, arrested three vehicle lifters and seized 28 vehicles worth Rs 26 lakh from their possession, more recoveries would be made in the further investigation.

To curb the incidents of motorcycle theft in the city and to track down vehicle thieves under the direction of senior officials a team of police station in-charge Kuthla and cyber cell was formed and ordered to check the theft of motorcycle and to nab the accused as soon as possible.

Police station in-charge, Rohit Dongre and cyber cell team started raids at possible places using CCTV details in different areas and based on the information regarding a person trying to sell a two wheeler, the team detained the suspect Sunil Saket(33) of  Rewa. On questioning the accused he confessed to stealing a motorcycle along with his other accomplices Dipu Kushwaha and Sonu Sahu.

Based on the details, the team arrested Deepu alias Deepak Kushwaha(28) and Sonu Sahu(19) of Katni. The accused accepted stealing motorcycles from different places of the city. With the help of the details Kuthla police seized 28 vehicles while raiding many places of Katni including Rewa, Sidhi.

The accused used to change the number plate and erase the engine and chassis numbers to change the identity of the motorcycle. Some of these vehicles were kept for personal use.
