STF nabs trio from Rishikesh for making counterfeit government identity cards

Wednesday, 28 December 2022 | PNS | DEHRADUN

The Uttarakhand special task force (STF) nabbed three men from a common service centre (CSC) in Rishikesh for allegedly making counterfeit documents including Aadhaar cards, voter ID cards and PAN cards on fake documents for citizens of other States and Nepal. Many residents from Nepal have allegedly been living in Garhwal division as citizens with the help of such counterfeit documents. The STF senior superintendent of police Ayush Agrawal said the three accused including the CSC owner were arrested late on Monday evening after an Aadhaar card and voter ID was delivered to a Nepalese man, a police decoy for Rs 10,000. He said that the accused had forged all government identification documents depicting the Nepalese man as a resident of a village of Pauri district. He said that the STF team arrested three men who have been identified as-CSC operator Lakshman Singh Saini, his brother Babu Saini and a native of Nepal Bharat Singh who was currently living in the Kalyasaur area of Pauri. The SSP said that use of fake documents for government identity documents is a serious matter of concern as these can be easily used by any person for anti-national activities. It can be used for purchasing mobile SIM cards by criminals that cannot be traced back to them as they never submitted their identity documents to acquire the SIM cards. He said that the authorities are investigating the arrested accused to get information about how many  such government identity documents they have issued since they started this scam. He said that it appears to be a big racket and many others are also potentially involved in issuing such documents. The STF will proceed on the matter as per the information revealed during the investigation, added Agrawal.
