Vedanta launches skill training at Lanjigarh

Sunday, 27 March 2022 | PNS | LANJIGARH

The Vedanta Limited, Lanjigarh has launched a skill training programme to create employment opportunities for local youths by enhancing their skillsets in the housekeeping trade.

The company has partnered with NABARD for the programme, which will be implemented by the Vedanta Foundation.

The programme was inaugurated by District Development Manager, NABARD, Kalahandi, Malay Kumar Meher in the presence of Lead District Manager, Kalahandi Dhruv Prasad Singh and Head – CSR (Vedanta Lanjigarh)Bibhudendu Panda.

The programme will run for three months, starting March.

Housekeeping as a trade has been chosen considering the post pandemic boom in demand of semi-skilled workforce in the hospitality and tourism sectors. The first batch of 30 youths hail from across eight villages in the vicinity of the plant. By the end of this 90 days programme, the batch will be upgraded to the category of semi-skilled workforce.

Post third party assessment, successful trainees will be given qualification certificates, and provided appropriate placement opportunities. Vedanta aims to train at least 300 youth under this project in FY 2022-23.
