Display technologies on the fast lane

Display industry got a boost during pandemic when screen time increased significantly. It is is now touching new heights

One of the biggest fallouts of the Corona pandemic and the lockdowns have been the change in the habit patterns and a push to the digital domains. This has opened up new possibilities of working and learning from remote locations. One of the most prominent industries that has enabled this transition has been the display industry. The growth of LED screen business in India has been phenomenal in recent years, with the technology gaining widespread acceptance.

One of the key factors driving the growth of the LED screen business in India is the increasing adoption of digital technology. With the rise of e-commerce, digital marketing, and online entertainment, businesses are increasingly turning to LED screens as a way to engage customers and promote their brands. LED screens are also being used in education, healthcare, and government services, where they can enhance communication, improve productivity, and provide a more immersive user experience. “The display technology market has seen significant growth and evolution over the past decade, with the rise of technologies such as 4K and HDR leading to more advanced and immersive viewing experiences. We will continue to see a focus on technologies that offer better color accuracy, brightness, and contrast, as well as innovations in areas like curved and flexible displays.” Says Rajeev Singh, MD BenQ India, the company that has been at the forefront of the LED screen business in India.

Another factor contributing to the growth of the display business in India is the availability of affordable and high-quality LED screens. Advances in technology have made LED screens more affordable and accessible, allowing businesses of all sizes to take advantage of this technology. “There is a growing demand for displays that are environmentally friendly, and I expect to see more manufacturers focusing on developing products that are energy-efficient and sustainable.” Says Rajeev Singh, MD  BenQ India display one of the largest manufacturers of display screens in India.

But this is not just the size of the market but also the innovations  that are finding a place in the display segment. For instance, BenQ, a multinational is promoting green energy on display. It is the third largest display manufacturer in the world. “As a group we hold around 15% share in the world-wide display market. And we have multiple patents and this place is becoming exciting as the research is demand driven, Now new innovations are coming in everyday” Says Rajeev.

Besides, the display technology is now going Indian,  giving a boost to the ‘make in India’ pitch of the Prime Minister. Most display panels have manufacturing lines in China or Taiwan or Vietnam but that is changing fast.

BenQ has also pushed ‘make in India’ drive.  Its interactive flat panels are now getting Indianised.  “We are expecting to sell at least 15,000 Plus ‘made in India’ interactive flat panels in India with international standards. we are launching a completely new model which is being launched at the same time in India as well as in other countries.” Says Rajeev Singh.  The company is getting it done through a third party manufacturing company in India which is not only generating employment but also indirectly helping the growth of ancillary industry in India.

No wonder this is one exciting segment for manufacturers, users and also investors. Display Market size was valued at USD 131.49 Billion in 2021 and is projected to reach USD 182.90 Billion by 2030.
