‘Need to develop medical audit system’

Dr. Jitendra Kumar Jain from Australia on Sunday underlined the need to develop a medical audit system along with better skills in hospitals.

Dr Jain is Chief Cardiothoracic Surgeon at the St. John of God Geelong Hospital at Victoria. A resident of Chhattisgarh, he is an alumni of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Medical College, Raipur.

He was briefing a visiting team led by Chhattisgarh Health Minister T.S. Singh Deo and senior officers.

Dr. Jain said that in case of death of the patient, there should be multiple and independent audits. Along with medical consent, financial consent should also be taken from the relatives of the patient.

It should also be ensured that the follow-up of all the patients is taken by the doctor himself so that the patients and their relatives can be assured of better treatment.

He added that better healthcare facilities in government hospitals is only possible on the basis of discipline, quality and teamwork.

The visiting team was briefed on the delivery of quality health services, training and protocols to be provided.

Dr. Rupali Jain, working as a Family Physician and General Practitioner in Australia underlined the importance of providing family physician services in rural areas.
