Four cops of Madhya Pradesh Police have been selected for gallantry awards for showing indomitable courage and valor in arresting two hard core Naxalites in the anti-Naxal operations in Balaghat.

The gallantry award has been given to the said policemen for 2 different incidents.
On September 17, a police team was sent under the leadership of Shyam Kumar Maravi (the then Additional Superintendent of Police Baihar) to village Bandhatola (Samnapur) under Police Station Malajkhand to verify 02 suspected Naxalites. On seeing the police team, one of the Naxalites attacked the police with a pistol and both Naxalites jumped into the pond to escape. Succeeded in arresting him alive. The said Naxalite was identified as Badal alias Kosa, active area committee member of Extension Platoon-2, on whom a reward of Rs 8 lakh was declared and total 17 crimes were registered in Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh. Shyam Kumar Maravi led the police team bravely and the entire police team along with the arrested Naxalite was also brought out of the forest safely.
The other incident was August 10, 2021, on receiving information about the presence of suspected Naxalites in village Jairasi of Thana Birsa, Shivkumar Maravi and Sheikh Rashid posted in SIB reached inside the village and collected very important intelligence without caring for their lives. At around 8.30 in the night, Shiv Maravi and Shaikh Rashid chased them and succeeded in arresting Sandeep alias Lakhu Kunjam, an active member of Naxalite Khatiya Mocha Area Committee with a reward of 08 lakhs alive.
A total of 22 crimes were registered against Sandeep Kunjam in Madhya Pradesh-Chhattisgarh.
